Cricut machines have a sticky mat which keeps the paper from shifting when you are cutting out shapes and letters. After using it many times, the board will lose its stickiness and will need to be refreshed so that you can use it again before purchasing another one.

Your Cricut mat will need to be replaced over time, but this method can be used quite a bit before it has to be replaced...at least two times for me. If your mat has holes from the blade, it has to be disposed of.

Pull excess paper fibers off of the mat. Wash your mat with liquid soap and hot water. Instead of using a rag, try rubbing the fibers off with your hand. Make sure the mat is completely dry before using the glue.

To make your mat sticky again use a 2-way glue – I used ZIG (with the thick chisel tip) and paint the whole mat with it, let it dry completely. My mat took about 5 minutes, and you are good to go again!!!

Give this tip a try – you will be glad you did…the money saved can be used for something more exciting than Cricut mats!

I also have friends who have tried the spray glue...haven't tried that method yet but there are tons of videos on youtube using the spray glue method...my way was easier I think :D

Thanks for the tip! It seems like my mats lose their stickiness so quickly. I will have to try this.

I've used the spray for my Silhouette sticky mat. I didn't like that too much. Then I came across a gal who recommended using Elmer's Repositionable Poster & Picture glue stick. I rub it on the mat, let it set for a minute, and then use it. I have found this works much better than the spray. I'll have to try the stuff you recommended, too, Michelle. :D

good tip Tami...might try that one...the great thing about the zig glue is I don't overdo it....hate when the mat is too sticky and makes my paper curl up...

I've had great luck with repositionable spray glue on my Cricut mat (but off of the top of my head, I can't remember what brand it is). I just use that blue painters tape to mask off the edges and then spray it really quick.

hmmm...have not seen a silhouette mat in person...thinking it probably would...would be worth trying on a mat you were getting ready to throw out just to see if it works :D
